Compression! Art & Fire is Controlled Burn’s annual celebration of fire and alternative arts held each July as part of Reno’s Artown festival.  In the style of Burning Man, but in a free and family-friendly format, we bring fire performance, sculpture, flame effects, costuming, youth and alternative dance, music, art cars and mutant vehicles out of the dust and into downtown Reno.  We offer vendors, skills workshops, arts experiences, costume parades, food and drink. Our Reno event is on July 26th at Reno City Plaza and Virginia Street right downtown.

We are also holding Nevada community Compression festivals as Official Nevada 150 Events in conjunction with Nevada’s Sesquicentennial celebrations.  We will be in Lovelock on June 20 from 6-10 pm as part of the Nevada State Firefighter’s Assoc. Annual Expo (fire games!).  We will be in Fernley on June 28 as part of the Fernley Multicultural Festival, and outside Austin, NV (on Smith Creek Dry Lake) on July 12 in conjunction with the International Landsailing World Championships.  We hope you will participate too.

“Compression! Art and Fire” is produced by Controlled Burn, a group of fire artists who have created and maintained a 501(c)3 federal educational and 509(a)2 charitable non-profit.  Your financial support is deductible up to 50%!  Help us out if you feel so inclined by calling Erika at 775-686-9608 for more information, documentation, and other ways to be involved. Compression is a 100% volunteer fueled, performed, and staffed event.  We try to give small travel stipends and reimburse for artist expenses, but no one makes money on Compression.  It is our gift to Nevada.  Please come and help us celebrate our art and fire!
