Compression is Controlled Burn’s annual celebration of fire and alternative arts, held each July as part of Reno’s Artown festival. In the style of Burning Man, we bring fire performance, sculpture, flame effects, costuming, youth and alternative dance, music, art cars and mutant vehicles out of the dust and into downtown Reno. We offer vendors, skills workshops, arts experiences, costume parades, food and drink.
We plan to hold our 2014 event on July 26th on the Washoe County Courthouse parking lot between Virginia and Sierra, Liberty and Court streets, just a block south of the Truckee River. We will work in other Nevada communities throughout 2014 to create Official Nevada 150 regional Compression events in conjunction with Nevada’s Sesquicentennial celebrations.
“Compression! Art and Fire” is produced by Controlled Burn, a group of fire artists who have created and maintained a 501(c)3 federal educational and 509(a)2 charitable non-profit. Your financial support is deductible up to 50%! Help us out if you feel so inclined by calling Erika at 775-686-9608 for more information, documentation, and other ways to be involved.
We are proud of Compression as it is a 100% volunteer fueled, performed, and worked event. We try to give small travel stipends and reimburse for artist expenses, but no one makes money on Compression. It is our gift to the Truckee Meadows community. Please come and help us celebrate our art and fire!
