Compression! Art & Fire is Controlled Burn’s annual celebration of fire and alternative arts, held each July as part of Reno’s Artown festival.  In the style of Burning Man, we bring fire performance, sculpture, flame effects, costuming, youth and alternative dance, music, art cars and mutant vehicles out of the dust and into downtown Reno.  We offer vendors, skills workshops, arts experiences, costume parades, food and drink.

We hope to hold our 2014 event on July 26th on Reno City Plaza, our venue of the past few years on the Truckee River, but won’t know until June.  We are developing Nevada community Compression festivals throughout 2014 across the Silver State as Official Nevada 150 Events in conjunction with Nevada’s Sesquicentennial celebrations.  There will be events in Lovelock (June 20), Fernley (June 28), and Austin (on Smith Creek Dry Lake on July 12).  We hope you will participate.

“Compression! Art and Fire” is produced by Controlled Burn, a group of fire artists who have created and maintained a 501(c)3 federal educational and 509(a)2 charitable non-profit.  Your financial support is deductible up to 50%!  Help us out if you feel so inclined by calling Erika at 775-686-9608 for more information, documentation, and other ways to be involved.

Compression is a 100% volunteer fueled, performed, and staffed event.  We try to give small travel stipends and reimburse for artist expenses, but no one makes money on Compression.  It is our gift to Nevada.  Please come and help us celebrate our art and fire!
