If you missed our big, yearly training on 4-27-08 and are still interested in becoming a safety, please know that safety is taught on an as-needed basis for the rest of the year. This individualized instruction does not cover the fire extinguisher stuff, but does cover basic performer fire safety and is adequate for most spinning environments.

Fire safety is taught by Cory Canon (or designee, a senior safety staff within Controlled Burn), Director of Safety for Controlled Burn, with almost a decade of experience with fire safety and tools, demonstrates proper technique for putting out performers, how to react if you catch yourself on fire, how to safety for fire performance, information on proper costume and fabrics for fire performing, proper fuel dump storage and what to do in case of fuel dump fire. Students will then practice putting out various tools and reacting in specific scenarios.

Being a fire safety has been the avenue to inclusion in the group and the path to eventual performance for many active members of Controlled Burn. The draw of the fire just becomes too much after awhile!
