Now that it’s starting to warm up, let’s move things outside shall we?
Since summer is right around the corner (well….I’d like to think so at least), we’re going to move practice and classes outside! This means that we’ll also be having Community Burn’s again, so be sure to bring your own fuel and tools to light up what you’ve been practicing all winter!
We’ll be moving our classes from 8pm to 9pm, and rehearsals will be from 6:30pm~8:30pm. By all means please feel free to stop off earlier and watch us rehearse! And for those wondering what Community Burn is, it’s where you can practice your stuff with tools actually lit! But you DO need to bring your own fuel for such things, and you are also required to go through safety and tool training beforehand for safety reasons. After-all, we wouldn’t want you getting hurt out there.
So join us outside at the Moana Pool! It’s about time we got out into the nice outdoors!
- Where: The Moana Pool, located at Moana Municipal Pool, Reno, Nevada 89509 (Yes, it doesn’t really have an address…..weird, I know.) It’s extremely close to 210 W Moana Ln, Reno, NV though.
- When: Starts May 5th, and will continue on all Wednesdays until it starts to get chilly! Practice starts at 6:30pm until 8:30pm, Classes start at 8:30pm until 9:30pm.
- Why: Because it’s warmer, and we like to enjoy the great outdoors….and community burns as well. ;D
- Cost: Classes are donation based, but not required. We humbly request any size of donation that you can make for classes. $5 or more would sure make us happy!
- Additional Details: In order to do community burns, you MUST bring your OWN fuel. You MUST also be cleared by the Director of Safety (or equivalent) at the classes before you can do community burns.
You can get the fuel at almost any major retailer that has a camping section (Walmart, for example). It is Camping White-Gas, although if you have any questions/doubts as to which one is right come to class and we’ll show you.
Anyone know where I can START learnng fire poi? I’ll be a senior in high school next year and want to do it for my senior project but dun’t know where to start:S I’m northern CA region and don’t have the most fuel efficient car either.
Hi there Rachel!
The best thing to do in your case, might be to google-search for local fire spinning groups in your area. If that fails and you can’t find any groups in your area, the next best thing is to actually rent/buy a DVD online.
There are tons of them, and while it’s not as good as having a live teacher in front of you, it should do the trick! It’s a shame that you live a little far away though.
-Matty Pockets
Thanks Matty! I’m really only about an hour away from Reno, which I would be totaly willing to travel to (kind of anticipated it because any kind of instruction aside from agirulture would be). I know the project outlines allow me to use videos but I would prefer real lessons. Would I be able to take classes with the group? I don’t have any previous experence with it at all and I don’t know if that would be OK, though.
Of course you can take classes with the group.
Not having any previous experence is totally ok, too.
Psh, when I started spinning, I had ZERO experence! We all have to start somewhere, ya know?
Thank you so much for the show in the park last night & the info on your lessons! We are SO excited to come tonight & learn with you!!
